The initiative enhances transparency, eliminates fake beneficiaries, reduces paperwork, and ensures direct, timely benefits to over 15 crore citizens across the state.
UP Strengthens DBT System with Statewide Family ID Integration
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is strengthening transparency, efficiency, and inclusion in welfare delivery through the Family ID system. The initiative ensures that no eligible citizen, especially those at the bottom of the social pyramid, is deprived of government benefits. By integrating Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes with Family ID, the state is creating a robust mechanism to eliminate duplication, curb fake beneficiaries, and deliver benefits directly to deserving families.

98 Central and State Welfare Schemes Linked to Family ID

According to Principal Secretary (Planning) Alok Kumar, a total of 98 public welfare schemes of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments have already been integrated with the Family ID system. These include 13 Central government schemes and 85 State government schemes.

As a result, more than 150.7 million beneficiaries are currently receiving benefits seamlessly. So far, 4.4 million citizens have applied through the Family ID portal, reflecting growing public participation and trust in the system.

One Family, One Identity: The 12-Digit Family ID

The Family ID card is a 12-digit unique identification number that contains verified details of all family members under a single profile. Aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision of “One Family–One Identity”, the system enables automatic eligibility mapping for welfare schemes, minimizing human intervention and preventing misuse or duplication.

This unified digital identity ensures faster approvals, improved accuracy, and enhanced accountability across departments.

Relief from Bureaucratic Hassles for Citizens

The introduction of the Family ID system has significantly reduced the need for citizens to visit multiple offices for income, caste, residence, or other certificates. Once registered, the required information is automatically fetched from the centralized database for various schemes.

This has led to substantial savings of time, money, and effort, especially benefiting rural residents, senior citizens, and daily wage workers.

Inclusion of Families Without Ration Cards

The Yogi government has taken special measures to ensure that families who are not covered under the ration card system are also brought into the welfare net. Through special registration drives, such families can now access government schemes using their Family ID, ensuring that no eligible household is left out.

Aadhaar and Mobile Linking Made Mandatory

For authentication and transparency, Aadhaar linkage is mandatory for all family members under the Family ID system. Aadhaar must also be linked with a valid mobile number to enable OTP-based verification. Citizens whose mobile numbers have changed are required to update their Aadhaar details to avoid disruption in services.

Direct Access to the Poor, Vulnerable, and Marginalized

The Family ID initiative is a major step toward social justice and inclusive governance. It ensures timely access to benefits for poor families, laborers, farmers, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. With targeted delivery and real-time verification, social security schemes are now reaching beneficiaries more effectively than ever before.
