Did Ashlee Jenae die of strangulation? Police finally break their silence amid fiancé Joe McCann's custody

In a major development in the mysterious death of Ashlee Jenae, a 31-year-old Miami-based lifestyle influencer found dead in a hotel room in Tanzania's Zanzibar just after her engagement, police have shared a crucial update on the case. Zanzibar Deputy Commissioner of Police Zuberi Chembera has addressed growing speculation around the cause of death, even as authorities continue to hold her fiancé, Joe McCann, who remains in custody. Amid the buzz, let's find out whether Ashlee Jenae died due to strangulation.

According to The Citizen, Chembera spoke about the case on Tuesday, April 14, and confirmed that police are carrying out a detailed investigation to establish the exact cause of Ashlee's death.

Authorities also stated that Joe's passport has been withheld, as reported by the BBC, and he is currently cooperating with investigators as a witness. However, the officials have rejected widespread claims that Miami-based influencer Ashlee Jenae died due to strangulation, and the investigation is still going on, and no definitive cause of death has been established yet.

Also, a senior police official, Zuberi Chembera, stated that the documents circulating on social media alleging strangulation are false and were not issued by an authorised authority. He added that the actual cause of death will not be determined after a full-forensic examination is completed.



According to Impressive Times, investigators are coordinating with multiple agencies, including representatives connected to the victim's family and diplomatic officials, as the probe deepens.

Not only that, but the early report suggests hotel staff were alerted after another guest complained of a disturbance coming from the couple's room, prompting management to relocate McCann to a different room within the hotel. In a related development, a hotel employee who had earlier interacted with Jenae reportedly discovered her in a critical state. She was immediately taken to a medical facility, but doctors were unable to save her.

A post-mortem is currently underway at a Zanzibar hospital to establish the exact cause of death.



While early reports indicated that authorities were considering the possibility of suicide, Jenae's family has firmly rejected that claim, arguing that the circumstances surrounding her death are unclear and deeply concerning.
