Netflix’s His & Hers thrills with twists and secrets, and more Alice Feeney adaptations are on the way.
Netflix’s countryside crime thriller His & Hers has quickly become one of the most talked-about thrillers heading into 2026. Adapted from Alice Feeney’s bestselling novel of the same name, the series raises the bar for thrillers. With sharp twists, shifting perspectives, and secrets layered deep into its story, His & Hers keeps viewers guessing until the very end, and clearly, audiences are loving every minute of it.
Starring Tessa Thompson as Anna Andrews and Jon Bernthal as Jack Harper, His & Hers follows an estranged couple brought back together by tragedy. Both are still grieving a shared loss when a murder shakes the quiet town of Dahlonega, where they once built a life together. Jack is now a detective on the case, while Anna, a former TV news anchor, sees the crime as a chance to reclaim her career.
The six-part series delves into Anna’s past, gradually revealing her ambition, grief, and unresolved resentment through flashbacks and sharp dialogue. As Jack works to solve the case while grappling with his own personal pain, Anna’s motivations become clearer. The story evolves from a crime investigation into a deeper exploration of guilt, ambition, and buried truths, key themes that define Alice Feeney’s writing and explain why viewers responded so strongly.
The Netflix adaptation of His & Hers makes a few notable changes from Alice Feeney’s original novel while keeping the story’s tension intact. The setting moves from London–Blackdown in the book to Atlanta–Dahlonega for the series, and the BBC newsroom becomes Atlanta’s WSK.
Despite these updates, the series preserves the suspense, twists, and emotional stakes of the novel. With a killer in a small, tight-knit town, every character remains a suspect, keeping viewers just as engaged as readers of the book.
If His & Hers pulled you in, you are far from alone. Alice Feeney spent 15 years working as a BBC journalist before becoming one of the most successful psychological thriller writers today. Her novels include Sometimes I Lie, His & Hers, Rock Paper Scissors, Daisy Darker, Good Bad Girl, Beautiful Ugly, I Know Who You Are, and My Husband’s Wife.
Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages and have been widely praised for their sharp twists and unreliable narrators. Many of them have also been optioned for screen adaptations, and several are now actively moving forward.
One of the upcoming adaptations is Sometimes I Lie, Feeney’s 2017 psychological thriller. The story follows Amber Reynolds, a radio producer who wakes up in a coma after a car crash. She cannot move or speak, but can hear everything around her. As conversations unfold, Amber begins to suspect that her husband, Paul, and her sister, Claire, may be hiding dark secrets.
In 2024, it was announced that producer Tommy Harper would develop the series alongside writer-producer Matt Charman. The show will be written by Charman and Welsh novelist and screenwriter Caryl Lewis, known for Hinterland and Hidden.
Another major project on the way is Rock Paper Scissors, Feeney’s 2021 novel about a troubled marriage. The story follows Adam and Amelia Wright as they take a weekend trip to a remote chapel in the Scottish countryside, where long-hidden secrets come to light.
Netflix announced a six-part adaptation in 2021, produced by Suzanne Mackie under her company Orchid Pictures. Mackie described the project as “scary” and “character-driven”, signalling a tone similar to His & Hers.
Beautiful Ugly, published in January 2025, is also headed for the screen. The story centres on Grady Green, a writer whose wife disappears during a phone call near a cliff. A year later, while grieving, he spots a woman who looks exactly like her. In early 2025, Todd Lieberman’s production company, Hidden Pictures, acquired the rights and plans to develop the story into a feature film.
With His & Hers captivating viewers, Feeney’s dark, twisty stories are just getting started, and audiences will be watching closely.
