Who is Steve Grove? Alleged ICE officer who fired three shots into Renee Good's vehicle; eyewitnesses reveal victim was unarmed

In the wake of Renee Nicole Good's fatal shooting in south Minneapolis on January 7, 2026, uncertainty surrounds the identity of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved and who was the shooter. Despite multiple social media speculations, one name that has surfaced among netizens is an ICE agent named 'Steve Grove'. On Wednesday morning in south Minneapolis, a Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE officer at the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, which is an area where the federal and local law enforcement had been confronting protestors for hours.

According to CBS News, federal sources confirmed that Good was a US citizen, and city officials also pointed out that she was a legal observer, not the target of any ICE operation.



As soon as the investigation into the shooting started, multiple videos surfaced on social media. As per some eyewitnesses present at the location, it was revealed that at around 9:30 am, whistles were blown to warn neighbours of ICE's arrival.

Apart from that, there were multiple videos surfacing on social media. One X (formerly called Twitter) user shared a video clip of an eyewitness, Emily Heller, who is also the neighbourhood resident, sharing that the woman was clearly visible and unarmed. According to her, Good was concentrating on blocking traffic rather than posing any kind of threat to the agents.

Additionally, the witnesses said that she was leading a vehicle in what appeared to be a protest. In the video, she is heard saying, "...if she was a target. They clearly wanted her. Because she was the main car leading the... the protest is my understanding. I talked to another guy who was driving behind her."

"But she was... she was very, she was very successful in blocking traffic. She was doing what she was, what she was set out to do. And so they wanted to get her the hell out of there. Voice of Ben Hovland: So it looked like she was impeding ICE vehicles," she added.



While social media has circulated the name “Steve Grove” in connection with the shooting, federal authorities have neither confirmed this nor provided any official documentation supporting the claim. The identity of the ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good remains shrouded in uncertainty, fueling public concern over transparency and accountability.

Despite widespread speculation online,online, federal authorities have offered few details, revealing only that the officer is considered “experienced” and received brief medical care following the incident. Apart from this, there is no information about the agent's identity, background or disciplinary history.
