Uttarakhand Government Approves CBI Probe in Ankita Bhandari Case Following Parents’ Appeal

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a CBI investigation into the Ankita Bhandari case, honoring the request and emotional appeal of Ankita’s parents. The decision reflects the state government’s continued commitment to justice, transparency, and sensitivity in cases involving serious crimes.

The Chief Minister emphasized that from the moment the tragic incident came to light, the government’s priority has been to ensure justice through a fair, impartial, and transparent process. He stated that this commitment remains unwavering and will guide all future actions related to the case.

According to the Chief Minister, the state acted swiftly and responsibly, keeping public trust and the victim’s dignity at the forefront.

Soon after information regarding the heartbreaking incident emerged, the Uttarakhand government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a senior woman IPS officer. This step was taken to ensure impartiality, sensitivity, and professionalism in handling the investigation.

All individuals accused in the case were promptly arrested, and the government ensured strong legal representation throughout the proceedings.

Following a detailed investigation, the SIT filed a comprehensive chargesheet against the accused. The trial was conducted without delay, and due to the seriousness of the crime and effective prosecution, none of the accused were granted bail during the investigation or trial.

Upon completion of the judicial process, the lower court awarded life imprisonment to the convicts, underscoring the strength of the evidence and the seriousness with which the case was pursued.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged that certain audio clips related to the case have recently circulated on social media. Separate FIRs have been registered in connection with these developments, and investigations are currently underway to determine their authenticity and relevance.

He assured that no information, evidence, or lead will be ignored at any stage.

CM Dhami informed that he recently met Ankita Bhandari’s parents, who expressed their desire for a CBI investigation to ensure complete confidence in the justice process. Respecting their sentiments and request, the state government decided to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He clarified that this step has been taken purely in the interest of justice and transparency.

Speaking with deep emotion, the Chief Minister said that Ankita was not merely a victim of a crime but was also a daughter and a sister to society. He reiterated that the government stands firmly with her family and will leave no stone unturned in securing justice.

CM Dhami reaffirmed that the intent of the Uttarakhand government is absolutely clear: justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done. He assured that the administration will continue to act with sensitivity, determination, and accountability until justice is fully realized.
